Interim Insights Report

Building the Australia We Want: interim insights from the Lab

Early thinking from the first design cycle: the emerging design for a National Conversation, the questions participants raised, and the early ideas still in development.

Nothing in it is final. Every part is open to challenge, and the questions throughout are genuine requests for input while the thinking is still easy to change.

Launch Report

Building the Australia We Want: A National Conversation For Our Future

This report sets out the foundations and design of the National Conversation Development Lab, an 18-month, cross-sector initiative led by Foundations for Tomorrow to build and test a credible model for a large-scale National Conversation about Australia's long-term future.

It consolidates the research, design logic, international evidence and governance architecture that underpin the Lab, and sets out the principles and conditions that will guide its delivery across the 18 months ahead. It is intended as an open invitation, articulating the aims and charting the course for an initiative that is comprehensive in its ambition and collaborative intent.

The First Nations Discovery Process

Guidance that has shaped the Lab's design, and continues to

Between November 2025 and February 2026, Foundations for Tomorrow undertook a structured First Nations Discovery Process to determine whether the National Conversation Development Lab should proceed, and if so, under what conditions.

The report sets out what was heard, a deep dive on First Nations data sovereignty, the design principles carried forward, the design adjustments made in response, and the commitments that follow from them.
